As a small business owner, I have honed my leadership and fiscal accountability skills over the years, and I have learned a great deal in my 3 years on the Select Board. My style is open-minded and collaborative, with an emphasis on listening carefully to all opinions and options. I thoroughly research an issue and all the possible consequences, particularly for those most affected. I am also an advocate and stand ready to assert myself, respectfully, when needed. I believe in drawing in as many to the table as possible and to that end, I communicate meeting agendas and minutes regularly and encourage citizen participation on committees and boards. We need everyone's voice in order to be a robust community.
Grafton's storied history has shaped our wonderful town today and I am committed to bringing that same sense of community into the future. As a member of the Trustees of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorials, it is very important to me that we remember, commemorate and celebrate our local heroes who have served our country valiantly. I am also member of the Master Planning Committee, and will continue to work hard to set goals and pursue long term projects that will carry Grafton forward into the future.
As a member of the Select Board, I have worked diligently with the Town Administrator, DPW and Traffic Safety Committee to make our Common safer and more accessible for pedestrians. As a member of the ARPA Committee, I worked on planning sidewalks in school zones to promote safety and walkability. Keeping our public ways and sidewalks updated and improving them as needed is key to a safe community for all.
I am a strong supporter and advocate for Grafton's many businesses. Our small businesses are the lifeblood of our community, and I am committed to doing whatever I can to promote them and help them thrive. Check out our restaurants, shops and services before you head out of town - shopping locally keeps our town flourishing!
I am passionate about our sense of community. As a past member of the Recreation Commission as well as the Open Space and Recreation Committee, I feel strongly about creating a vibrant, active town culture for all. Whether it's celebrating the holidays, enjoying an arts festival or parade, or planning sidewalks for better walkability, I will continue to support proposals that promote and enhance our community enjoyment.
Sustainability has been a passion of mine for many years. I founded the Sustainable Grafton Facebook group to create a place to brainstorm and share ideas for making our town more sustainable. Many of those ideas, such as the Black Earth Compost program, have come to fruition. I also founded the Sustainable Grafton Committee which meets regularly to plan events such as Grafton Earth Day on April 19, from 9am - 1pm on the Common. Join us !
